July 6: Monica Throws 16 Strikeouts for her Second Consecutive Shutout
Monica Abbott is shutting down batters and keeping the Chicago Bandits at the top of the National Pro Fastpitch standings. With 16 strikeouts in her Monday appearance against the PA Rebellion, Abbott secured her second shutout in as many games. And with those 16 Ks, another $160 goes towards the Monica Abbott Scholarship fund! You can read more about how Monica’s strikeouts help build the fund.
Monday’s game was another page in what is turning out to be another season of dominance in the NPF for Abbott.
July 5: Abbott Pitches Her Way to 4-1, Helping the Chicago Bandits to a 2.5 Game Lead atop the NPF
Monica Abbott started off the month of July with an impressive showing of her dominance in the circle. The 6’3″ Olympian shut down the aggressive USSSA Pride, allowing just three hits in her complete game shutout for the Nation Pro Fastpitch league-leaders, the Chicago Bandits. Following three more wins (2-0 against the Pride and then 6-3 against the PA Rebellion on July 2 and 5 respectively), the Bandits brought their lead atop the NPF standings to 2.5 games ahead of the Pride.
Leading the Bandits in wins this season, Abbott has continued her dominance from the circle. You could see her owning the position and the batters in the shutout against the Pride. But where does she derive that aggressive style of pitching? She told the Daily Herald out of Chicago that, “I just wanted to go out there and be aggressive. We lost two really close games in games one and two in this series, so it was really important to just keep my team in the game and be an aggressor out there.”
We hope that Monica’s custom Diamond Bandit Spikes helped her dig in, and power through each pitch. However, when you’re the sport’s toughest pitcher, you could probably throw a shutout barefooted. Still, Monica got back to us this week about the new custom designs we’ve been sending her way, saying, “I loved the Diamond Bandits to begin with, but the new designs Ringor sent over made them even better! I think it’s great that fans can choose which pair I’ll wear each week. When we only play in a few select cities with the NPF, it’s awesome to have some kind of personal connection with the fans that can’t make it even if it’s just my spikes. But somewhere there’s a kid who’s watching one of the televised NPF games thinking “hey, I picked out those spikes for Monica, and that’s just cool.”
If you haven’t been keeping track of our social media pages or email, you might be wondering what Monica’s talking about. Last week we announced a fun weekly poll to choose which of the five custom Ringor Diamond Bandit spikes Monica will wear for her games that week. You can check them all out and vote by commenting on our Facebook page. Which pair will she wear next? It’s up to you.
And don’t forget to cheer Monica on each time she steps into the circle. Because she’s not only pitching to win, but with each strikeout, Ringor will donate $10 to the Monica Abbott Scholarship Fund. You can check out our K counter at Ringor.com and we’ll be making regular updates on our Facebook page as well..
