The NCAA softball season is underway and going strong (despite some weather cancellations due to winter showing up in the south), so we caught up with some of our friends in college softball to keep you updated on what’s going on across the country at the DII and DIII levels.

Linfield College Softball

Out in the DIII Northwest Conference, the Linfield College Wildcats softball program owned their first three double-headers this past weekend, going 6-0 and only giving up 11 runs in six games. On their four-day, three-double-header trip to California, the Wildcats remained undefeated with 8-0 and 5-4 wins over LaVerne, 4-1 and 9-6 wins against Cal. Lutheran, and two 9-0 wins over Occidental. Talk about offense!

Kenzie Schmoll stood out over the weekend with 7 RBIs across the 6 games (5 of the RBIs coming in the last game against Occidental). Senior pitcher, Montana McNealy walked away from the long weekend with four wins, while junior, Maddy Dunn picked up the other two wins.

William Jewell College Softball

Last week, DII William and Jewell Cardinals softball headed to Bentonville, Arkansas for a double-header, starting with Oklahoma Panhandle State University and then Ouachita Baptist University in the afternoon. The Cardinals started their season with a blast, taking the first of two with a 13 – 3 win over Oklahoma Panhandle and then cruising to a 6-2 win over Ouachita.
Cardinals senior, Faith Song, took the win at the mound against Oklahoma Panhandle and added to the Cardinals’ score, going 3-4 at the plate with a homer. In the second game, the Cards’ pitchers showed up on both offense and defense, as junior, Nona Pauline, threw a complete game to get the win and then went 2-3 at the plate. Faith Song then hit her second home run of the day to secure the win. The Cards then went one and one in their next two games, bringing their opening weekend record to 3-1.

The William Jewell Cardinals take the field again on Saturday, February 28 for another double-header in Joplin, Missouri. For more on the Cardinals athletes and coaches, including Song and Pauline, check out this roster video from the team.
