If there’s any sure sign that the sport of fastpitch softball is rapidly growing in the US, the addition of the Dallas Charge pro softball team to the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) league would be it. The fifth team to join the league was announced last week and the news has fueled even more excitement among fastpitch athletes and fans across the country for the upcoming NPF season.

The Dallas Charge will join the Chicago Bandits, the Pennsylvania Rebellion, the Akron Racers, and the 2014 NPF Champions USSSA Pride for the 2015 season. Long-time fans of the NPF will remember Dallas previously had an NPF team, which moved to Rockford, Illinois in 2007. The new Dallas Charge will have two home fields in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metro area, a decision aimed to make the games as accessible to area fans as possible. Only one home field has been named as of the team’s announcement. The Charge will be playing at Craig Ranch in McKinney for many of their games and the second field will be announced in the coming weeks.

Kevin Shelton has been named General Manager of the Charge and will use his experience in fastpitch softball at both the national level and specifically in Texas, to help grow the franchise. The first steps in that growth will include building a competitive roster of fastpitch athletes from across the country and even the world, to play in the 2015 NPF season. That’s 9 more professional starting positions for fastpitch athletes that might not have had the chance to play at this level otherwise. And that’s why we’re so excited about the addition of the Charge to the NPF league. With each team added, that’s more opportunities for players to continue their careers and more opportunities for fans to show the importance of fastpitch on the professional level.

The NPF season kicks off in June and we’ll have all of your NPF updates through the pre-season and season, including coverage of the Dallas Charge.
