As many of our fall-ball seasons wrap up, and TV coverage has all but disappeared until spring, you may be struggling to find your fastpitch fix. Sure, those who are lucky enough to play in the south or have indoor programs through the winter get to play throughout the year, but what about sitting down at night, scanning the TV and finding nothing but football and reality shows? There must be a place to find quality coverage of fastpitch, even in the off season. NCAA to the rescue! You can catch select NCAA softball games in full on www.ncaa.com/video/softball. May I suggest starting out with this year’s DIII championship game between Salisbury and our own Ringor-wearing Tufts Jumbos.
The Salisbury vs. Tufts championship game went down on May 27 of this year and without giving away too many details, it was a pretty great game to watch. Some of the best DIII play we saw all of last year took place in this errorless game, along with 12 hits from the Jumbos. Check it out! If you missed it, here’s your chance to re-watch. And remember to look out for our Ringor softball cleats on the Jumbos players.
Another favorite on the NCAA video site is this feature on Louisiana-Lafayette star pitcher, Christina Hamilton and her trademark glasses. Christina broke out to becoming a household name for anyone who caught her pitching on ESPN networks during this year’s College World Series. Between her 29-4 record with a 1.56 ERA through 237.1 innings and her “Wild Thing” frames, #16 drew the eyes of millions in the softball community and beyond. This feature from NCAA.com interviews Hamilton, her teammates and her coach about the rising star’s style on and off the mound.
So this late-fall and winter, when you’re not training in the gym, skip the boring TV entertainment and watch some of the full games and interviews on NCAA.com. Hopefully it’ll help you through the cold weather season without making you pine for fresh grass, loose dirt and the smell of leather..
